iPhone X

Apple is at it again. As at early September 2017, Apple introduced to us the iPhone X, IOS was known as “iPhone 10,” making it an addition to the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 plus lineup. This new product represents the biggest advancement of Apple since it started it’sPhone series 10years ago. Apple’s major purpose with the iPhone X is to create an iPhone that’s an all display, creating a line between physical object and experience. The 5.8-inch display screen cuts into a highly polished edge stainless steel band that surrounds a lasting all-glass body available in two beautiful colors: Space Gray and Silver. Both comprises of a black front panel. The iPhone X display has rounded corners that follows a beautiful curved design, and these corners are within a standard rectangle.

When the Screen is measured as a standard rectangular shape, it measures about 5.85 inches diagonally ( the actual viewable area is less). The awesome screen display accepts an OLED technology for true-to-life colors, deep blacks, and a million-to-one contrast ratio. Its features include a 2436 x 1125 resolution and 458 pixels per inch, the highest resolution and pixel density ever in the history of iPhones. iPhone X allows HDR, wide color, 3D Touch, and True Tone features for adjusting the white balance of the display to match the surrounding lighting.

iPhone X possesses an IP67 glass body that is water, splash and dust resistant. This resistance, however, are not permanent conditions and resistance might decrease during extended use. This helps in the preparative wireless charging for the first time. The iPhone X allows the Qi wireless standard which Makes it possible to charge through the glass back using any Qi-approved charging accessory. iPhone X adopts a new user experience which is due to its edge to edge design. This brings about the lack of the home button which also means there’s also no Touch ID. Therefore, unlocking an iPhone X is done using the new Face ID recognition system.

This Face ID feature uses the True Depth front camera to create a 3D map of your face. This is used much like a fingerprint for unlocking the iPhone X, authorizing Purchases on Apple Pay, App Store and using passcode protected apps. iPhone X face ID feature uses infrared camera technology making it work in the dark. It uses machine learning and detects your face with beards, make-up, glasses hats, and other objects that could obstruct your facial Features. Because it uses a 3D map of the face, Face ID cannot be deceived by pictures, masks, or any other facial replicas. As an extra level of security, Face ID is alert and only unlocks your iPhone X when you’re looking directly at it.

On the iPhone X, an upward swipe (bottom-up) opens the home screen. A swipe and hold open the App switcher while a tap wakes the notifications feature. To activate Siri, the side button is pressed and held while the Control Center is accessed by swiping downwards from the top status bar.

iPhone x Face ID

Apple’s latest invention, iPhone X possesses a unique feature known as “Face ID” to unlock the device and authenticate payments. This Face ID is made effective by a state of the art dual-core neural engine built into the new A11 Bionic chip. This A11 chip includes a total of six cores, with two performance cores and four high-efficiency cores, including the neural engine.

The Face ID feature is similar to the fingerprint ID because it maps out your face after capturing it using its front-facing camera while that of the fingerprint captures your print.

Image capture

Face ID makes use of a combination of light projectors and sensors to capture your facial features. This combination is collectively known as the ‘TrueDepth camera system’.These technologies on the iPhone X will work together to create a thoroughly detailed map of your face to instantly recognizes you.

Face ID set up

When setting up the Face ID, you should follow the instructions on the screen which involves moving your head in a circle so the camera can take multiple shots of your face for a 3D map. The camera uses infrared (IR) light to light up your face while also capturing the images of your face for perfect functioning either day or night, outside or indoors. Infrared fathom wavelengths of light beyond the visible specter, so iPhone X’s display won’t shock you in the dark.

Steps for image capture

◈ The close sensor and surrounding light sensor helps the TrueDepth camera system determine how much bright light will be needed for face recognition

◈ The flood illuminator produces infrared light which is part of the electromagnetic spectrum that is  invisible to the naked eye, to brighten your face;

◈ The infrared (IR) camera captures images of the dot pattern and the IR light that’ been reflected back from your face.

Other iPhone x features

The Apple company celebrated the iPhone’s 10th Year Anniversary with a special edition phone they called the iPhone X.  According to Apple, the iPhone X can be described as “the biggest leap forward since the original iPhone.” It’s not called iPhone X, but iPhone 10. Amazingly, the screen takes up the whole phone’s front panel. iPhone X is made from top surgical-grade stainless steel, with glass on the rear panel. iPhone X is also water and dust resistant and is available in space gray and silver colors.

The OLED display screen is the first in an iPhone and It is called the Super Retina Display. It measures about 5.8 inches, with a resolution of 2,436 × 1,125 pixels. Apple says it has solved problems with brightness and color accuracy that sometimes troubled OLED screens in the past, and has also added Dolby Vision and HDR10 support for awesome video playbacks. iPhone X is designed to be spontaneous to use, despite having no button at the front, due to the screen’s size. It’s just a swipe up to reach the home screen or just tap on the screen to get started. These gestures work across the operating system, for multi-tasking, and to close apps. Siri is still activated by voice, or by using the larger side button. A double tap on the side key activates Apple Pay.

iphone x FACE ID

To unlock the iPhone X without a home button, Apple has introduced a facial recognition feature which is called Face ID. It works using the True Depth camera system, hidden in the notch at the top of the display. Glance at the phone, and it illuminates your face, making it ready for an infrared camera to identify it. It even works in the dark. Using the A11 Bionic chip, a neural engine processes the image in real time and has been built specifically to mathematically map the shape and contours of your face.

Apple claims it’s not confused by hairstyles, or whether you’re wearing a hat, or if you decide to grow a beard. According to Apple software chief Craig Federighi, the iPhone will be able to recognize your face through “most” sunglasses too, as long as they let through enough infrared light. Protections against masks and pictures are in place, and face data is stored in the secure enclave inside the A11 Bionic chip.

Apple made known to the public that the Face ID feature on the iPhone X is actually more secure than other biometric systems. The probability of someone else unlocking your phone without your knowledge is one in 5,000. Apple Pay can only respond to your requests when you look at the phone to pay for any services and it works with already existing apps that use Touch ID for authentication. Apple has also brought about some software security programs that prevent phone theft because the phone unlocks by simply holding it to your face.  That means, if you don’t stare at the phone directly, it will not unlock. Also, if you hold the buttons at both edges of the phone, it will temporarily disable facial recognition.

phone wars- iPhone X vs iPhone 8.

The iPhone X features the latest design Apple has ever introduced since the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus which came in 2014. With the iPhone X, Apple has created a display that stretches from edge to edge and top to bottom for an all-screen design. iPhone X is not much bigger than an iPhone 8, but it’s actually smaller than an iPhone 8 Plus. Aside from its slim panel that wraps around the edges of the device and a front notch that protects the front camera, speaker, and sensors, the screen is all you see when looking at the iPhone X. There is no bottom panel, the home button is absent, and there is also no Touch ID fingerprint sensor. With the elimination of these features,  Apple has been able to pack a 5.8-inch display into a package that Isn’t all that bigger than the iPhone 8.

The iPhone X measurements are at 143.6mm tall and 70.9mm wide, and it is 7.7mm thick. The gently rounded edges of the iPhone X’s display cuts right into a surgical-grade highly-polished stainless steel body frame, which goes into a new glass body for a  continuous surface, front to back. Aluminum has been used for the previous models of iPhone but the iPhone X version composed of glass which Apple says is the most durable glass they’ve ever made. The iPhone X comes in two colors: Silver and Space Gray, with both colors offering an almost pearl-like finish courtesy of a seven-layered inking process that has allowed Apple to introduce precise appearance and opaqueness. A reflective optical layer is added to the glass to brighten the two colors, and an oil repelling coating makes smudges and fingerprints easy to wipe away.

Still On Phone Wars

The steel frame, designed to strengthen the iPhone X, is produced from a special Apple-designed alloy that is very pure for better durability. On each device, the frame goes with the body color. An almost invisible antenna bands cut through the steel body frame at the top at the bottom of the device to ensure adequate signal. The left side of the device houses volume buttons and the standard mute switch, while the right side houses an extended side button that has a new function to compensate for the lack of the Home button.

There is a dual lens camera arranged in a vertical way behind the iPhone X. This a first in an iPhone. The camera protrudes slightly from the body of the device, and in between the two lenses, there’s a quad-LED flash and a microphone. At the bottom of the device is a traditional Lightning port for charging along with six-speaker holes located on the side of it.

The iPhone 8 has been designed with an increased number of real experiences in mind. Each camera shows individual calibration with new gyroscopes and accelerometers for more proper and accurate motion tracking. With its glass body, the iPhone 8 also supports Qi-based inductive wireless charging and are able to charge using a range of Qi-approved accessories.

There is also an improved 12-megapixel camera at the back of the iPhone 8, with a dual-camera setup. The iPhone 8 features a larger and faster sensor, a new color filter, and deeper pixels. Also, with a new image signal processor, there’s advanced pixel processing, wide color capture, faster autofocus under low light, and better HDR photos.
